As part of our campus outreach program, Link Legal India Law Services partnered with National Law Institute University, Bhopal (NLIU) to organise the first edition of NLIU - Link Legal National Client Counselling Competition at the NLIU, Bhopal. This was a 3 (three) day competition held from September 7 – September 9, 2018 jointly organised by Link Legal and NLIU. In total, twenty law schools across India participated in the event, out of which four teams made it to semi-finals and ultimately two teams battled it out in the Finals. Different aspects of client counselling were discussed.
The Opening Ceremony (7th September) had the gracious presence of Hon’ble Justice Alok Verma (Retd.), Former Judge, M.P. High Court as the Chief Guest. On the second day of the event, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Navin Sinha, Judge, Supreme Court of India, shared his valuable experiences and insights with the students and participants during the interactive session. In the session, a detailed interaction took place on the requirement of ethics and morality in the legal profession, and that a lawyer must be true to his profession.
The Valedictory day (9th September) began with the final match between the teams from KLE University, Bangalore and West Bengal National University of Judicial Sciences, Kolkata. The competition was adjudged by Hon’ble Shri Justice J.K Maheshwari of the Madhya Pradesh High Court along with Mr. Atul Sharma, Managing Partner, Link Legal and other team members namely Mr. Anurag Dwivedi, Partner, Mr. Siddharth Srivastava, Partner and Mr. Abhishek Sharma, Associate Partner.
The final round was won by the team from KLE, Bangalore while the team from West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS), Kolkata finished as Runner Up. Also, Archi Pawar of Nirma University won Best Counsel and Shivang Puri of NLIU was adjudged as the Best Client. The winning team was awarded with a cash prize of Rs. 31,000 along with an internship with Link Legal. The Runner Up received a cash prize of Rs. 21000. The Best Client also won an internship with the Link Legal. The competition was followed by the Valedictory Ceremony. Hon’ble Shri Justice J.K Maheshwari of the Madhya Pradesh High Court was the Chief Guest for the ceremony. Mr. Atul Sharma, Managing Partner, Link Legal addressed the gathering of participants and students, encouraging them to understand the expectations of client and counsel. Justice Maheshwari threw light on the importance of litigation and how the field is seeing less participation from the current generation of lawyers as newer branches of law are emerging. Prof. (Dr.) V. Vijayakumar, Director of NLIU and Mrs. Giribala Singh, Registrar also graced the occasion.
The event was a great success and got an overwhelming response from colleges all across the country and got wide media coverage.
NLIU and Link Legal further signed a MOU to hold such client counselling competitions annually for another 2 (two) years.
